Design & File Questions
What printing method will be used for my order?
We select the best printing method based on your design, garment type, color count, and quantity. This may include:
- Screen Printing
- Direct-to-Film (DTF)
If you have a preferred method, contact us before placing your order.
What is the difference between Screen Printing and DTF?
Screen Printing
Best for larger orders and simple, bold designs.
- Ideal for 24+ pieces
- Best for designs with 1–5 solid colors
- Uses premium plastisol inks for exceptional durability
- Colors can be Pantone matched for brand accuracy
- Produces vibrant, long-lasting prints that hold up wash after wash
- Most cost-effective for bulk orders
- Great for businesses, schools, teams, events, and merchandise programs
DTF (Direct-to-Film)
Best for smaller quantities and highly detailed artwork.
- Great for any quantity , including small runs
- Unlimited colors with no additional color charges
- Perfect for gradients, detailed artwork, and complex designs
- Works on cotton, polyester, blends, and most other fabrics
- Excellent option for full-color graphics and personalized apparel
- Ideal for small orders, one-offs, names, numbers, and intricate designs
Will the print fade after washing?
Our prints are made using professional-grade inks and processes. To maintain longevity:
- Wash inside out
- Use cold water
- Avoid high heat drying
Following care instructions helps your print last longer.
What file formats do you accept for custom designs?
We accept the following image formats:
- SVG (Recommended)
- PNG
- JPG
For the best print quality and sharpest results, we recommend uploading SVG files whenever possible. SVG files are vector-based, meaning they can be scaled to any size without losing clarity or detail.
Don’t have an SVG file? No problem. Our design team will recreate your artwork as a production-ready vector graphic at no additional charge, regardless of the file type you upload.
Before any order enters production, you’ll receive a digital proof showing your vectorized artwork, garment details, print locations, and sizing. Nothing is printed until you review and approve the final proof, ensuring everything looks exactly the way you want it.
If you’re unsure about your artwork quality, simply upload what you have. We’ll take care of the rest.
Why do you prefer SVG files?
We accept SVG, PNG, JPG, JPEG, and other common image file formats. If you have an SVG file, we recommend uploading it, as vector files are the easiest to work with and help streamline the design process.
Don’t have an SVG file? No problem. Our design team will recreate your artwork as a production-ready vector graphic at no additional charge.
Before your order enters production, you’ll receive a digital proof showing your finalized artwork, garment details, print locations, and sizing for approval. Nothing is printed until you approve the proof, ensuring every detail is exactly how you want it.
Can you recreate my logo if I only have a low-quality image?
Yes. As part of every order, our design team will professionally recreate and vectorize your logo at no additional charge. You’ll receive a digital proof for approval before production begins.
Do you check my artwork before printing?
Yes. Your artwork, colors, print locations, logo sizes, garment details, and size breakdown are reviewed before production. Carefully review your digital proof and request any changes before approving it. Nothing is printed until you approve the final proof.
Pricing & Color Questions
How is the price of my custom shirt calculated?
Pricing depends on the product, decoration method, artwork colors, print locations, and quantity ordered. Our team can review your requirements and confirm pricing before production.
Why does the front and back print cost different amounts?
Front and back prints are priced separately because each print area requires:
- Separate setup
- Separate ink application
- Separate production time
Adding a back print will increase the total cost accordingly.
Why does the price increase when I add more colors?
Each additional color in your design requires:
- Separate screen setup
- Additional ink usage
- Extra production time
Because of this, pricing increases based on the number of colors used in your design.
What if the color count shown in the customization tool seems incorrect?
If you are unsure how many print colors your design requires, contact our team. Gradients, shadows, or image compression can make artwork more complex. We can manually review your design and confirm the color requirements and pricing.
What if my design has more than 5 colors?
Designs with more than 5 colors will typically be produced using DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing. DTF allows us to reproduce complex artwork, gradients, and unlimited colors without the additional setup required for screen printing.
If you would prefer your design to be screen printed, please let us know in your order notes or reply to your approval email. We are happy to review the artwork and discuss available options.
Please note that screen printing designs with more than 5 colors may increase production time and could extend the standard turnaround time for your order.
As always, the final production method will be shown in your approval email before production begins.
Quality & Trust FAQs
What is your satisfaction guarantee?
At The Printing Lab, we stand behind every order we produce.
We work hard to deliver high-quality products that match your approved artwork, garment selections, and order specifications. Our goal is simple: your finished products should look exactly as expected and arrive within the timeframe provided.
If the items you receive differ significantly from your approved proof, contain a production defect, include the wrong garment style or color, or have a print or embroidery issue caused by us, please contact our team. We will review the issue and work with you to find the best solution, whether that means a replacement, correction, reprint, store credit, or refund.
Because every order goes through an approval process before production, we ask that you carefully review all proofs before approving them. If the final product does not match the approved proof due to an error on our end, we will make it right.
If you have an issue with a delivered order, please contact our team so we can help find the best resolution.
Are your garments authentic brands?
Yes. We source products from trusted brands and authorized suppliers to ensure authenticity and quality.
Order Questions
Can I order less than 10 shirts?
Yes. Most products can be ordered with a minimum quantity of just one item. Whether you need a single shirt, a small batch, or a large bulk order, we’re happy to help.
Please note that pricing may vary based on the product, decoration method, and quantity ordered. Some specialty items may have higher minimums, but most apparel products can be ordered individually.
What if I'm missing items from my order?
We carefully count and quality-check every order before it leaves our facility. If you believe you’re missing items, please contact us within 4 days of delivery and we’ll investigate the issue.
In some cases, we may include a few extra pieces at no charge to account for potential production defects. If an item was unintentionally omitted from your order, we will work quickly to correct the issue.
Please include your order number and photos of the items received when contacting us at info@theprintinglab.com so we can resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
What if I made a mistake in my order?
No problem. After placing your order, you’ll receive an approval email where you can review all details and add notes about anything that needs to be changed.
This includes artwork, colors, size breakdowns, print placement, logo sizing, and other order details.
Once the approval email is approved, your order immediately moves into production. At that point, we unfortunately cannot make changes, so please review everything carefully before approving.
What if there is a printing defect or production error?
If your order arrives with:
- A manufacturing defect
- Incorrect item (wrong product sent)
- Major print error caused by our production team
Please contact us within 4 days of delivery with clear photos of the issue.
If the error is confirmed to be on our end, we will:
- Reprint your order at no additional cost
Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we will always correct mistakes that are our responsibility.
Why don’t you accept returns on custom products?
Because every item is:
- Printed specifically for your order
- Customized with your artwork
- Made to your selected specifications
Can I cancel my order?
Yes. You may cancel your order for a full refund as long as your approval email has not been approved and your order has not entered production.
Once your approval email is approved, your order immediately moves into production and can no longer be canceled, modified, or refunded. Please review your approval email carefully before approving to ensure all details are correct.
